NJU delegation visits France and Chile

From November 2nd to 9th, Ding Aijun, Assistant President of 优米直装下载app led a delegation to visit France and Chile, deepening cooperation with universities such as Université d'Artois and Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile in the field of international Chinese language education, enhancing inter-university exchanges, and expanding future cooperation.

During the visit to Université d'Artois, the delegation met with the university's President Anne Daguet-Gagey and Vice President for International Affairs Ahmed El Kaladi, and both sides conducted cordial and friendly exchanges. Ding Aijun introduced NJU's latest development situation and a series of measures and projects to promote international exchange and cooperation, expressing hope that the two universities would continue to deepen cooperation based on the existing foundation in the Confucius Institute and green chemistry fields. President Daguet-Gagey highly praised the achievements of more than ten years of cooperation between both sides, expressed great importance attached to cooperation with NJU, and expressed willingness to vigorously promote substantial exchanges in scientific research and talent cultivation in broader fields.

Subsequently, Ding Aijun and his delegation held discussions with Jin Siyan, Université d'Artois council member and French Co-Director of the Confucius Institute; and Zhang Qiang, Chinese Co-Director of the Confucius Institute, and representatives of the teaching staff, conducting in-depth discussions on the next steps of the Confucius Institute's work. Ding Aijun pointed out that while the Confucius Institute should be pragmatic and enterprising in the field of international Chinese language education, it should also fully play its role as a bridge and link to promote comprehensive cooperation between the two universities in multiple fields. The delegation also visited the Faculty of Science at Université d'Artois, and accompanied by the university council member and Dean of the Faculty of Science Adlane Sayede, inspected multiple laboratories and research teams in the field of chemistry and chemical engineering. Both sides exchanged specific research intentions and conducted extensive and in-depth discussions on faculty exchanges, doctoral student exchanges, summer schools, and jointly hosting international symposiums.

During the visit to Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile, Ding Aijun met with Juan Carlos de la Llera, the university's President and Member of the US National Academy of Engineering. Both sides affirmed that the work of the two universities in Confucius Institute construction has enhanced mutual understanding and friendship between the Chinese and Chilean peoples, and also hoped to strengthen cooperation in advantageous disciplines and highly complementary disciplines, with a focus on promoting student exchange programs.

Subsequently, Ding Aijun and the university's Vice President Maria Montt jointly attended the board meeting of Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile Confucius Institute. The board reviewed the Confucius Institute's work summary, plans, and budget, and conducted frank exchanges on the development of the Confucius Institute. Ding Aijun expressed affirmation and congratulations for the achievements of the Confucius Institute, and hoped that the Confucius Institute's work could further play its role as a bridge and link to promote and deepen comprehensive cooperation between the two universities. During this period, Ding Aijun and Vice President Montt signed an agreement supporting the construction of the Confucius Institute. After the board meeting, the delegation also held talks with Vice President Montt and the international exchange and cooperation team of Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile. Both sides reached consensus on quickly promoting student exchange programs in fields such as Astronomy and Geology.

During the visit, accompanied by Chinese Co-Director of the Confucius Institute Gu Hongjuan, Ding Aijun inspected the Confucius Institute and held discussions with the teaching staff and volunteers. He fully affirmed the role that the Confucius Institute has played in promoting China-Chile cultural exchanges, encouraged everyone to more actively serve cooperation between the two universities and the two countries, and expressed that NJU is willing to create conditions for local teachers of the Confucius Institute to come to China for further studies. Delegation members visited the Astrophysics Institute and the Faculty of Chemistry and Pharmacy of Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile in groups for exchanges, focusing on discussions of scientific research cooperation and graduate student joint cultivation in related fields.

In addition, during visits to France and Chile, the delegation successively inspected the "Chinese Garden" designed by Professor Leng Tian of NJU and completed at the Musée du Louvre-Lens through the promotion of Université d'Artois Confucius Institute; held a 优米直装下载app development exchange meeting in Paris, introducing NJU's educational situation and talent policies to alumni and international students; and visited the Chinese Academy of Sciences South America Center for Astronomy located in Santiago, holding discussions with the center's chief expert, NJU alumnus Professor Huang Jiasheng, and center staff on bilateral cooperation and exchanges.
